  • This is convenient because it gives you the ability to set up your menus and have it laid out in a way that works best for you, allowing you to put the most commonly used functions in plain sight so you focus more on driving.
  • You can adjust the brightness and contrast of the screen as well, to ease with viewing the screen in different lighting situations.

This all-in-one feature really sets the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD apart from others in its class. You are able to listen to all of your favorite devices through one, simple to navigate, device.

  • With the parking brake engaged*, the driver can enjoy vivid picture quality with the fully functioning DVD player that plays both store-bought movies and ones that you burn on your home computer that are in DIVX format.

*For the safety of the driver and all passengers, it is advised that you do not try and over-ride this safety feature.

If you would like though, add some backseat screens so passengers can enjoy their favorite films on the way to your destination. This is a very convenient feature for those long road trips with antsy children! :D

  • Backseat screens are also great for showing picture slideshows to all of your passengers throughout the vehicle.

Pictures look fantastic on the wide 1440 x 234 pixel resolution screen.

Using the available SD* slot, USB receiver, or a CD-R/RW, you are able to review and scroll through thousands of pictures with the touch of your finger.

*While the manual says that the SD port supports up to 2G, owners have reported NO issues with bigger memory cards.

The Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD receiver has options like viewing the pictures in random order and rotating them 90-degrees, aside from the standard play and pause options.

  • Using the available remote, the passengers in the back can control the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD receiver while the driver remains focused on the road.
  • Pioneer’s Advanced Sound Retriever technology restores data normally lost in the compression process and you don’t hear the distortion you normally get when listening to music on a receiver through a cord.

The plug-in is located on the front of the receiver which allows to easy, quick accessibility and gets you listening to your favorite tunes quicker.

  • There is an extension available which allows you to connect your iPod directly to the receiver to import music, video, and album art.

This direct connection eliminates that annoying static you hear with normal corded connections.

  • If you just want to listen to the radio, whether it’s AM/FM or Satellite, the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD is simple to navigate and offers high quality audio via Pioneer’s Supertuner IIID.

The sound quality is amazing and sounds better than your normal car radio.

  • Another great feature is that you can save a whopping 18 preset FM and 6 AM stations!

If you live in an area with a lot of great stations to listen to, having the ability to save them all is a feature you will definitely enjoy.

  • The Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD is also equipped to work with both XM radio and Sirius radio.*

The beautiful thing about satellite radio is not being restricted to the AM/FM stations you are able to pick up with your antenna.

The sound is exceptional and navigation through channels is quick and easy with the touch screen display.

*A subscription is required for each of these features.

  • If you travel to an unfamiliar place, there is a neat Best Stations Memory (BSM) function that will scan the area and pick-up the six strongest stations and automatically set them to your presets.

This is just one more feature that is designed to make finding good music easier and safer.

No longer do you need to endlessly switch through dozens of fuzzy stations trying to find one that plays familiar songs. With a simple click, your first six presets are set to a variety of the clearest quality station.

Built-in MOSFET 50W x4 Amplifier

The great sound quality you get from this receiver is, in part, due to the MOSFET 50W x4 Amplifier.

Have you ever owned a radio that made a clicking or distortion noise as you turned it on or off? That is no longer an issue with the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD that delivers more power and boasts less distortion and no on/off switching noises.

By creating a smaller, more efficient amplification circuit, MOSFET is able to deliver cleaner, crisper music at higher volumes; enhancing audio to almost 20 kHz frequencies.

Large Expansion Capabilities

  • There are also three 4V RCA preamp outputs included to assist with system expansion.
  • The Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD has a plethora of available add-on options you can purchase:
  1. Bluetooth
  2. Connecting to your Bluetooth capable device is super easy with this receiver.

After turning on “Discovery Mode”, the receiver picks up the device almost instantly. From there you can play music and send pictures via Bluetooth, as well as use your phone hands-free.

If you register your phone, you will also be able to view incoming, outgoing, and missed phone calls right on your AVH-P4200DVD monitor.

  3. Navigation
  4. If you’ve got your own business or like to take road trips, be sure to get the optional Navigation system!

It attaches directly to the receiver and is a must-have. Now you can listen to music and get detailed driving instructions in one, easy to use device.

The 7-inch screen comes in very handy here allowing you to clearly view streets and turns. There is no need for an additional device or suction cups that clip to your windshield and obscure your vision.

With the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD, your navigation is built directly into your dashboard, keeping your windshield clean and clear.

  5. Rear-view Camera
  6. If you’ve got a large vehicle or struggle with turning around in your seat when driving in reverse, you absolutely MUST get the optional rear-view camera!

The vision is excellent in any light with crisp, clear quality video feed. You can see items as small as a leaf perfectly, even at night!

The camera goes lower under the vehicle than most allowing you to see all the way to the ground.

Whether you’re backing up out of your driveway or attempting to parallel park between two vehicles, everyone can benefit from a little help while driving in reverse.

  7. HD Radio
  8. For those who listen to the radio on a regular basis, you really must try the HD radio option.

The difference between regular radio and HD radio truly is night and day. The sound quality is magnificent and even the AM stations come in clear!

Once switching to the desired channel, the receiver will automatically check for HD availability and switch over.

There’s no need to memorize which channels are HD and which aren’t since the screen will clearly display an HD symbol to let the user know HD is available.

  9. Multiple CD/DVD Changer
  10. For those who have trouble keeping up with numerous CDs and DVDs, Pioneer offers an add-on multi-disk changer for your receiver.

No more need to get visor clips or large, hefty binders to store all of your disks in. Designed to make storage a breeze, this convenient add-on is a must have for storing and playing your favorite CDs and DVDs.

This is also a nice feature to have when on a long road trip and your passengers would like to watch multiple movies or you’ve got multiple CDs.

You can now change disks with ease and avoid scratches and dust by keeping the disks in their respective slots.

What’s NOT so great about the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD:

  • One noticeable issue with the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD receiver is that it only plays movies in DIVX format.

Other popular formats, including MKV, MP4, and AVI, do not work and must be converted to play.

This does not affect DVDs, though, only the devices connected through the USB port.

With many free conversion programs available online, this is just a minor inconvenience. Just convert your movie before putting it on the USB and you are good to go.

  • The only other issue that seems to be apparent with this receiver is that installation can be very finicky.

Most who have done the installation at home have encountered errors. With the many different functions in the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD, a professional is advised to guarantee correct installation.

If you get a professional installation though, the receiver works beautifully.

If you are still willing to try it yourself, the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD receiver does come with an installation manual that is also available online.

Many who have successfully installed the system themselves have claimed to have installation completed in less than an hour.

How the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD compares with other receivers on the market:

While it certainly has some competitors on the market, like the Boss BV9560B and the Sony XNV-770BT, none are able to compare to the price and quality of the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD receiver.

The numerous features the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD offers sets it apart from the rest by offering unbelievable quality at a price that normal families can afford.

The Boss BV9560B, for example, boasts a slightly smaller price tag and has many of the same features as the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD, but cannot compare to the beautiful and intuitive touch screen of the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD.

Both will play DVDs, but the Boss will not play home-made movies or DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW’s.

Meanwhile, the Sony XNV-770BT does come with some built-in features, like Bluetooth and Navigation, that are things you must purchase additional components for with the Pioneer AVH-P4200DV, but it is almost double the price!

The Sony has also had many negative reviews regarding its software functioning incorrectly.

If you’re looking to get the best product for the price, the Pioneer AVH-P4200DV is the best choice IMO.

And because it’s made by Pioneer, you can also be sure that you will receive the highest quality audio and visual available.

Available in many stores and online, the PioneerAVH-P4200DV is worth every penny.
